Finished my EMT-B written test tonight. Pretty sure I passed. Won’t find out for several weeks, though.
On the topic of tests…while the EMT-B practical exams were a bit stressful, in that they require you to remember a sequence of steps more or less exactly, and then perform them under time pressure while being observed, they still have nothing on the JMPI test in Jumpmaster School (aka Advanced Airborne School). JMPI stands for Jumpmaster Personnel Inspection, and to do a JMPI, you have to examine a jumper’s rigging and parachute to make sure everything is exactly as it’s supposed to be. You have to follow a specific sequence exactly, you have to call everything by its proper nomenclature, you can’t miss the rigging mistakes, and you have very little time to do all of this. The JMPI test in Jumpmaster school has you inspecting two “Hollywood” jumpers (just uniform and parachute) and one combat-rigged jumper in five minutes. There’s a very low pass rate—on the order of 25%—on the first attempt. I’m still proud of having passed it the first time
.
In case you want to see what’s involved in the JMPI sequence, you can check out the official docs.
Of course, JMPI is only one part of Jumpmaster School. PWAC (Practical Work in the Aircraft) is another big piece, and there are other random bits as well. It was a total blast, though, and there is no feeling in the world like hanging out the door.
