Guy in straitjacketI haven’t updated my blog much lately, largely because this is what comprises my life these days:

6 credit hours of college courses.
50 or so hours/week software development.
95% parenting five children (ranging from “baby” to “almost grown”) and running household.
Supporting wife in her full-time pre-med studies (she also works part-time).

As you might imagine, this leaves little time for fripperies like “blogging” and “bathing” and “breathing” (“the three Bs”). And you’d be right.

So, based on this brutal schedule, what would be the natural thing to do?

And what would be the opposite of that thing?

If you guessed “sign up for NaNoWriMo, and write an entire novel in the month of November,” give yourself a cookie! And that, my friends, family, and loyal or not-so-loyal readers, is exactly what I’m doing. Why, you ask? Well, you can read this list of thirty reasons one might do so. Or you can ponder this quote from Deep Thoughts that seems appropriate:

“I hope some animal never bores a hole in my head and lays its eggs in my brain, because later you might think you’re having a good idea but it’s just eggs hatching.”

Fortunately, I’m not alone in my madness; my 14-year-old daughter is also signing up. Further proof that insanity is hereditary, I guess. Anyway, if you want to keep up on how I’m doing, you can check my NaNoWriMo author profile for real-time status updates. Wish me luck!
