CD of the Week posts · Sat Jun 4, 12:50 PM

So, when I listen to music (which is all the time), I tend to do it like this:

1. Load up the iPod Shuffle with a random selection from the library of ripped music. The Shuffle is for exercise, cleaning around the house, and doing yardwork, and it helps keep these things entertaining not having any idea of what’s coming up next.
2. Pick a CD or two to listen to in the car. I don’t really drive too much anyway, and I alternate the music with listening to NPR and some recorded spoken stuff (history, Spanish, .NET Rocks! shows, etc.). Sometimes the same CD will sit in the stereo for a month. Usually I use a burned copy for the car, so I don’t have to worry about scratching it up, losing it to a break-in, or whatever.
3. Pick 3 CDs to toss in the stereo (it’s a 3-disc changer). Generally I’ll pick two decent-ish CDs from the breadth of the collection, and one that is my New Hotness for the week (or month). This is usually a CD full of mad jams that will keep me happy for about the first 10k times I listen to them.

Anyway, I’m going to occasionally post what I’m bumping for the week. This week, it’s 50,000,000 Soulwax Fans Can’t Be Wrong—these are the guys behind the 2 Many DJ mash-ups, of course. This collection (two CDs) takes it in more of an electronic/techno direction. Plenty of good jams, and if there are parts you don’t like, just stick around a minute, something else is coming along real soon . I’m not going to bother to say “Recommended,” because all my CDs of the Week will be recommended .

  1. I picked up Young MC – “Return of the 1 Hit Wonder” and Fu Schnickens – “F.U. Don’t Take it Personal” the other day.. the first being average at best.. it doesn’t have the inherent humor that made the previous outings of Marvin Young so great. “Don’t Take it Personal” is just as awesome as allways.. I had to buy the cd because my tape wore out.

This seemed like a more interesting place to tell you about it than IRC since nobody there would care =P
