A few notes on the site · Wed Aug 3, 09:19 PM

I’ve updated a few site bits, and figured I’d both note the changes and annotate a couple of site policies that may not be immediately obvious.
First off, I’ve changed the comments to use popup windows instead of redirecting the main window. Holler if this is immensely irritating; I may not even like it much myself—remains to be seen. I’ve modified the format for the dates shown on comments. They now show the date in a reasonable format, and don’t show the time. This has the convenient side effect of making it possible for slackers to post comments during work without being found out. Just in case your bosses are draconian, and monitoring this particular obscure weblog.
I’ve flipped the “automatically update ping-o-matic” switch. I also turned off the built-in TextPattern logging, as TextDrive supplies Urchin traffic logging, which is detailed and comprehensive. This should increase site performance.

Older blog posts are most likely not open for commenting, as I am using the “automatically turn off commenting after 6 weeks” setting. The alternative would be to never turn off commenting, but turn on comment moderation, which would be a bit too high a barrier IMO. Also, there are many older posts that have some ugly formatting warts, as I imported them automatically, and haven’t gone through and fixed them up. Probably won’t be doing that any time soon, either .

I got some TextPattern performance tips from particletree. Nifty site!
